FINALLY, once again, the three-day forecast of weathermen turned true on Tuesday, when several parts of Chhattisgarh received rainfall after heavy gust of winds lashed the populace. Though the short spell of heavy showers and hail storm at several places helped in transforming hot summer rays into cool breeze, the gust of winds resulted in power outage. The change in weather phenomenon amidst the mid of March was unexpected for many, yet it was a pleasant experience for many, who were experiencing hot condition during the day. However, if the social community is to be believed, the sudden thunderstorm, heavy rainfall, hail and gusty winds is a common phenomenon with the approaching festival of colour ‘Holi’. As the existing conditions subsides, dry weather is expected across the State which will again result in spike in temperature by around 4 degree Celsius over the State.

Meanwhile, the fallout of weather change, according to weathermen, was attributed to an the Cyclonic Circulation over West Vidarbha and the neighbouring areas that continue to persists extending upto 1.5 KM above mean sea level on March 19. Apropos, a trough with wind discontinuity runs from South Interior Karnataka passing over the existing cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and its neighbourhood. “Under the influence of these two systems, heavy moisture incursion is taking place over the State. Thus, Raipur city recorded around 13.5 mm rainfall during the day on Tuesday. However, the highest rainfall of 50 mm was recorded in the State at Akaltara and Bhatapara followed with 40mm at Dhamda, Masturi, Gandai, Sonhat and Kawardha, 30 mm at Bilha, Pamgarh, Saja, Janjgir, Chuikhadan, Bilargarh, Bilaspur, Sahaspurlohara, Nawagarh and Marwahi respectively while below 30mm rainfall was received at several places across the State,” the weather explained the phenomenon behind the extensive rainfall.

Moreover, the local Met Centre has issues a ‘Yellow Alert’ warning of thunderstorm accompanied with high velocity winds of 30-40 KMPH likely at a few places over the State on March 20. However, moderate to medium rainfall is expected at some places in the State on March 20. The sky will be partly cloudy with chances of thunderstorm along with short spell of rains in Raipur on Wednesday. Highest temperature is the capital city would be around 32 degree Celsius during the day, the MeT Centre maintained.
