Committed to safeguard interests of traders: Goyal

Union Minister for Railways and Commerce Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that Narendra Modi-led Government is committed to safeguard the interests of traders and industrialists. “The Government will never take any decision that will jeopardize the existence of businesses here in the country. However, it will also take into consideration the larger interests of the society while deciding policies for traders and industrialists,” he said while interacting with the representatives of various bodies in the event ‘Rashtriya Samvad’ held at Hotel Centre Point.
 
The event, organised by the BJP Vyapari Aghadi, saw participation of office-bearers of the Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC), Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA), Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry and Trade (CAMIT), Nagpur District Chemists and Druggists Association (NDCDA), Vidarbha Taxpayers Association, Nagpur Sarafa Bazar Association, Indian Medical Association, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and other bodies. Commenting of the demand of restricting flow of Chinese goods in the country, Goyal said that the issue has various parameters that needs to be thought of. “India’s trade with China and other Asian countries is worth millions of dollars and we cannot close our doors in haphazard manner. But if it essential, we will certainly take tough stand as we have done in the case of incense sticks,” he added.
 
The Government had recently banned the import of raw incense sticks as well as ready-made incense sticks. Hemant Gandhi representing the NVCC has raised the demand. Apart from this, Gandhi brought to the notice of the minister that the Zonal Rail Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) is not meeting at regular interval of time which is causing inconvenience to city’s traders. President of CAMIT Dipen Agrawal said there should not be import duty on bamboo sticks (used for making incense sticks). Mukund Dubey of NDCDA highlighted that online trade of medicines should not be allowed. Rajesh Rokde representing jewellers said that there should a proper system in Railway for jewellers who carry ornaments while traveling in trains. Naresh Jakhotia of VIA, raised some of the technical points in the tax system that are bothering sellers and purchaser of real estate properties.
 
Tejinder Singh Renu demanded Roll-on Roll-off (RO-RO) service between Nagpur and Mumbai and also urged the Railway Minister to increase frequency of 22126 - Amritsar Nagpur AC SF Express. As of now it runs once in a week. Julfesh Shah of ICAI urged the minister to support small and medium sector enterprises (SMSE). Goyal assured to look into the matter. Former MP Ajay Sancheti, President of BJP Vyapari Aghadi Sanjay Wadhwani; former mayor and BJP leader Archana Dehankar, MLA Sudhakar Kohale and others were among the prominent persons seated on the dais. Sanjay Bhende conducted the proceeding of the function.
