Country’s first Garbage Cafe inaugurated in C’garh

“Ambikapur had jumped 15 positions to become the second clean city after Indore in the country in Swachh rankings and is looking to take it a notch higher”, said Health Minister T S Singhdeo while inaugurating country’s first Garbage Cafe. The Garbage Cafe is an initiative of Ambikapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) and will provide free meal to the people in lieu of plastic waste. With the efforts of AMC, Country’s first Garbage Cafe is now opened at Pratiksha Bus Stand Ambikapur and it will provide food for free to the poor, homeless, rag pickers or anyone who will bring plastic waste weighing half or one kg. The Cafe will provide food at cheap rates as well. For the very first time in the country, the people will be able to get free food in return of plastic waste they have collected.
 
This is a very unique and exemplary initiative made by AMC and district administration for environment conservation. Mayor Ajay Tirkey, Shafi Ahmed, Speaker, Ajay Agrawal, Deputy Mayor and Mayor in Council members and councilors of Ambikapur Municipal Corporation are to be thanked for this novel and commendable idea. The initiative has got praises from national and international platforms. Speaking to ‘The Hitavada’ Ajay Tirkey said this is an effort to create awareness against use of plastic and by doing so we hope that the use of plastic by people will be curtailed and Ambikapur which already has carved a niche in the clean India map of the country will become a model for others to emulate.
 
The Garbage Cafe has been established at Ambikapur’s Pratiksha Bus Stand and its functioning will be managed by a local businessman. Arrangements have been made for weighing waste and giving tokens subsequently. Any person can bring plastic waste with him and can get free food or breakfast tokens as per the weight of the plastic. The Garbage Cafe has a spacious dining hall and one can peacefully sit and have their lunch or breakfast here. The token facility will also be provided from SLRM Center, situated near the bus stand. Health Minister T S Singhdeo inaugurated the Garbage Cafe and said it to be a remarkable initiative for getting rid of plastic as plastic.
 
Later, Minister Singhdeo checked the quality of food by tasting it and asked the concerned officials for maintaining the same quality in future as well. Bus Stand police outpost’s Constable Ajay Vishwakarma, Hiramani, Roopani and Phuleshwari deposited 1 kg plastic waste each at the garbage café and had a good lunch there. Meanwhile, Minister TS Singhdeo also inaugurated the community building in Vishnupur, constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. Councilors Hemant Sinha, Davitendra Mishra, Vijay Soni, Papindra Singh, Jeevan Yadav, Sanjeev Mandilwarr along with Collector Dr Saransh Mittar, SP Ashutosh Singh, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Harish Mandawi, Executive Engineer Sunil Singh and many other officials were also present during the programme.
