BJP up in arms against division of BMC
   Date :12-Oct-2019

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has upped its ante against State Government proposal to divide Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) in two parts to form Kolar Municipal Corporation. Alleging that the proposal to bifurcate BMC is illogical and beyond any reasons, BJP said that it is also looking for legal platform to raise its voice apart from deciding to conduct a mass awareness programme to urge people to lodge as many as objections against the contentious proposal.
Addressing the press conference at party office, ex-minister Umashankar Gupta said that it seems that to reap political benefit, Kamal Nath government has taken decision in haste to divide Bhopal Municipal Corporation into two parts to create Kolar Municipal Corporation. In the garb of proposal to float two municipal corporations, an attempt has been also made to disturb communal harmony and BJP will not tolerate it.
“The decision to divide BMC into two part is unfortunate and there is no substantial reason or base to bifurcate BMC. There is no geographical circumstance rather than political one to divide BMC in two parts,” said Umashankar Gupta.
He alleged that formation of two municipal corporations will have a cascading effect on implementation of central schemes and getting central funds. He also alleged that people will also suffer on formation of two municipal corporations in State capital.
“What will happen if one Mayor is not ready to implement a certain scheme,” he fumed.
He added that State Government has tried to divert people’s attention from its failure to contentious proposal to float two municipal corporations. “It is like cheating the people of Bhopal,” he alleged. He further added that if division of BMC is necessary then it should be divided equally. On this occasion, BMC Mayor Alok Sharma, MLA Rameshwar Sharma were present.
