As many as seventeen cows died in Dabra of Gwalior district. They were locked in a room of Government school in Samudan hamlet and they reportedly died of suffocation, starvation and thirst. Chief Minister Kamal Nath has expressed concern over death of cows in Dabra and ordered inquiry in the incident. When contacted by ‘The Hitavada’, Dabra city police station (Gwalior) stated that Gau Rakshaks, led by Deepak Gauswami, reported that some people were burying the dead cows by digging pit with the help of JCB machine at the premises of Government middle school. By seeing the Gau Rakshak Dal, they fled the spot. A case has been registered on the complaint.

SHO of Dabra Yashwant Goyal told ‘The Hitavada’ that someone had locked cows inside the room of Government middle school. Cows died due to starvation and hunger. On Thursday, some unidentified persons were seen burying the dead cows by digging pit with the help of JCB machine. By seeing the Gau Rakshak squad, these accused fled, leaving behind JCB machine. So far, accused are not identified but soon they will be identified and arrested. In the meantime, Chief Minister Kamal Nath has expressed concern over the incident and said that the news of 17 cows dying in Samudan of Dabra in Gwalior is a sad incident. He instructed officials of strict action against the guilty. “We are committed for cow conservation and protection and such incidents will not be tolerated,” he told.

Dabra police fathoms that possibly someone had locked cows deliberately inside the room of Government school and apprehension of stray cattle damaging crops could be one of the reasons. Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted that Congress in its Vachan Patra had promised to construct Gaushalas. If administration had taken the cows to Gaushala then they would not have been locked inside a room and have not died. By showing back to promise, then death of cows is tantamount to cow killing. Government should take initiative so that cows should not die in this manner.
