Festive fervour grips city during ‘Karwa Chauth’ celebration

City was shining bright with the spark of auspicious festival ‘Karwa Chauth’ which was celebrated in City of Lakes on Thursday in traditional fervour. Women beautifully and elegantly dressed in attractive colours like red, maroon, orange, pink and green, golden traditional outfits, having mehendi designs on hand celebrated the festival with traditional fervour and great enthusiasm on the day. Dressed like newly-weds, they looked resplendent in their heavily-embroidered saris and glittering ornaments. The city also witnessed the married couples enjoying the ceremony of the festival in different places where they gathered in groups and marked the occasion by performing rituals. Various games and programmes were also organised on the day to keep the women busy. Games like tambola werre also organised.
 
Those not interested in playing such games, organised other religious programmes. Religious fervour gripped the city since early morning. Married women visited temples in the morning and worshipped at homes too. Special prayer was held in the evening where the mother-in-laws with their daughter-in-laws performed religious puja. Other religious ceremonies were also performed on the day marking the occasion. All the married women who performed puja of ‘Karwa Chauth’ observed whole day fast without a sip of water till the moon was seen in the sky, for long life of their husbands.
 
‘Karwa’ (earthen pots) decorated adorably while praying was exchanged as per customary belief. ‘Karwa Chauth’ puja songs were also sung collectively while the feris (passing their thalis around in the circle). Various other programmes were also held among the women. After performing the religious puja in the evening the women followed the ritual and traditions by seeing their husband’s face through sieve as soon as the moon appeared in the sky. The husbands broke their fasts by giving a sip of water. Thereafter, various programmes were held at several places of the city.
 
Women also received special gifts from their husbands and mother-in-laws on the special day. Shruti Rajpoot, resident of Kasturba Nagar told ‘The Hitavada’, “Though it was difficult for me being on fast the whole day as I had to manage work and home simultaneously, but the day, being special, I felt energetic and active. I passed the quality time with my husband. It was really auspicious and memorable day for me.” While Shivani Raghuwanshi says, “It is really auspicious festival as it was my first time after marriage I had ‘Karwa Chauth’ celebration and had observed whole day fast. Fasting for your husband is such a lovely feeling and my husband is supportive as he also kept fast with me. He gifted me special gifts that were really adorable. Celebrating the festival is more fun when it is celebrated with the whole family”.
