Indira Grah Jyoti Scheme proves a ray of hope for power consumers

THE ambitious and popular scheme of Madhya Pradesh Government Indira Grah Jyoti Scheme has brought back smiles on faces of consumers as they got bill worth Rs 100 only. Consumers whose power consumption was less than 150 units heaved a sigh of relief as Rs 100 electricity bill was issued to them. Under Madhya Pradesh Eastern Region Power Distribution Company Limited (MPERPDCL) 21 districts’ 44,16,786 domestic consumers’ September month’s billing was done out of which 38,43,159 consumers were found eligible which is 87 per cent of total billing.
 
Indira Grah Jyoti Scheme has been implemented with effect from September 1, 2019, in Madhya Pradesh. All such domestic consumers have been included in this scheme as have monthly power consumption up to 150 units. In the bills issued after September month’s reading benefit of scheme has been provided to 38,43,159 consumers of Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa and Shahdol divisions, out of which 17,33,463 in Jabalpur region, 9,89,315 in Sagar region, 7,97,620 in Rewa region and 3,22,761 consumers in Shahdol region got benefited. For power consumption upto 100 units bills worth Rs 100 is being issued.
 
For more than 100 and 150 units per month consumption, bills for remaining 50 units are issued according to present rates. A special provision has been made under the scheme that if monthly consumption of any consumer is 150 units or less than that then it would be given benefit of the scheme. For 100 units consumption bill worth Rs 628 is served on prevalent rates while in schemes merely Rs 100 is billed. Likewise for 150 units consumption Rs 917 is billed as per prevalent tariff while merely Rs 389 is realised under the scheme. In rural areas for 100 unit consumption Rs 608 is billed, while under the scheme Rs 100 is billed. On the other hand for 150 units consumption 897 is billed but in scheme merely Rs 389 is realised.
