MSD’S FUTURE
   Date :18-Oct-2019

FROM his own will to break for duty with armed forces to injury lay-off and indecisiveness on calling it quits, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future with Indian limited overs team has remained a topic of guesswork since the World Cup sojourn in England. Not many were forthcoming on making a direct comment, neither the selectors nor the administrators. All that will be put to rest soon, as early as on October 24, with BCCI President-elect Sourav Ganguly taking a call on the intriguing issue in his own imperious style. Ganguly has expressed his desire to know from the selectors their plans about Dhoni’ future and also from the player himself on his future course of action. Decisiveness was a pivotal trait that took Ganguly to the perch of being a successful captain in his playing days. That he has not changed his style while donning the administrator’s hat has infused a fresh breath in BCCI functioning. Going by Ganguly’s style of functioning a definite word will be out soon on the future of Dhoni. The development will provide a big breathing space to all stakeholders in Indian cricket.

WATER-EFFICIENT!

THE Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has done well to ask the affiliated schools to become water-efficient in three years. Egged on by apprehensions that by 2020, many cities in the country will not be left with much groundwater, the CBSE has raised the alarm about water-efficiency in its schools, so that in the times ahead, the kids are not deprived by basic quantities of water. Obviously, the CBSE schools will have to implement a programme of rainwater harvesting on an immediate basis so that in the next three years, there may be at least some groundwater to bank upon in times of crisis. Some may call the CBSE directive to schools as too much of a long shot whose actual impact may never be seen immediately. If groundwater harvesting is one method, teaching the students an appropriate water culture is another. It is in this area that a lot of work will have to be done so that the kids as well as their families back home learn proper water etiquettes so that water is no wasted in a brazen manner.
