Governor directs universities to improve quality of education

Governor and Chancellor of the State Universities Anusuiya Uikey said that the vice chancellors of the state universities have been directed to take all measures to improve quality of education in the state-run universities after a review meeting of eight state universities at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
 
 
 
Talking to media persons, after the meeting, Chancellor Anusuiya Uikey said that it is her main motto to hold review meetings of the universities so that the children of the state get quality education in these state government-run universities. The Chancellor said that she would hold review meeting of the universities in every four month.
 
Uikey said that she has directed the universities to improve quality of education to improve National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) gradation.
 
She informed that only two state universities got grants from University Grants Commission (UGC). The Chancellor directed the universities to improve their education standard. Posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors are lying vacant. Over 1384 posts of faculties are lying vacant in the colleges of the state. Several professors from SC and ST did not get promotion, she added. The Chancellor said that she directed the Higher Education Department to fill all the backlog posts of teaching faculties belonging to SC and ST. Uikey said that besides academics the universities have been given asked to adopt five villages where they will take up activities such as cleanliness drive, rain water harvesting and other works besides creating awareness about various social aspects. For monitoring of these works, one nodal officer has been appointed, the governor added. Replying to a query, the Chancellor said that she would hold a meeting with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Higher Education Minister Umesh Patel soon to remove all kinds of hurdles in the higher education institutions. All the universities have been directed to make annual calendar. Exams should be conducted on time and results of the exams should be declared on time so that the students of the state are not deprived of admission in other educational institutions.
 
The Chancellor said that she has asked the universities to put a blanket ban on use of plastic bottles and take all measure to prevent pollution in the campuses. Besides, Uikey has also advised the university authorities to promote use of bicycles in the campus instead of motor vehicles.
