Inter-state gang of burglars nabbed; cash worth Rs 3.25 lakh recovered

Raipur Police on Friday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of burglars by arresting three thieves and recovered cash worth Rs 3.24 lakh from this possession.
 
 
 “A special police team, constituted to probe burglary took place at a jewellery shop in limits of Kotwali Police on July this year, busted an interstate-gang and recovered Rs 3.24 lakh from their possession. The arrested were identified as Ganesh Shankar Verma alias Golu (23), Virendra Ahirwar alias Vickky (21) and Pradeep Ahirwar (19), all natives of Uttar Pradesh,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur, elaborating that Ganesh Shankar, who worked in the jewellery shop, is the mastermind of crime.
 
ASP Thakur further informed that on intervening night of July 30 and July 31, the trio broke into a jewellery shop located at Sadar Bazaar under Kotwali police station and decamped with cash worth several lakhs from locker.
In a wake of the crime, police registered an offence under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) and 457 (Lurking
house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and probe was launched.
 
“Following the directive of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen, police launched a probe and started analysing footages gathered from CCTV cameras installed in the area. Preliminary police investigation coupled with CCTV footages hints involvement Ganesh Shankar Verma, who worked in the shop and leaved for his native place around 15 days before the burglary. After camping for some days in UP, investigators managed to round-up Ganesh Shankar,” affirmed ASP Thakur.
 
On being subjected to interrogation, Ganesh Shankar admitted of committing the burglary with the help of Virendra and Pradeep, said ASP Thakur, elaborating that Rs 3.24 lakh was also recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, Ganesh Shankar also admitted of stealing Rs 5 lakh from shop’s locker with the help of a duplicate key last year, added the officer.
