The participation of players in unauthorised sport events may spoil their sports career as they could not take part in National Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games

Mushrooming unrecognised sports organisations are putting the sports career of youngsters at stake due to absence of any regulation on sports associations in the country. Fake sports organisations are attracting teenagers in the name their participation in the state and national competitions. Players of unrecognised sport events satisfied themselves and their parents by participating in national and international competitions but could not get any recognition of their achievements. Irony is the fact the Government of India is tend to ensure participation of youngsters in sports activities but the country is yet to have any authorised body or rules for regulation of sports organisations.

Along with unrecognised organisations, there are several parallel sports associations in the country. Existence of unregulated sports organisations is adversely hampering the desired sports promotion and wasting the potentials of talented players. What is more that the non-government organisation School Games Federation of India (SGFI) became the top protector of such unrecognised sport events by introducing them in its annual sports calendar which have no place in National Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games.

Indian Olympic Association, Executive Committee Member, Digvijay Singh, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that existence of unauthorised sport events are badly hampering the promotion of authorised sport events throughout the country. He informed that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) or Sports Authority of India (SAI) have no powers for regulating sports organisations.

He also advocated for some regulations for checking unethical and unfavourable practices in the field of sports in the country on the part of the Government of India. The participation of players in unauthorised sport events may spoil their sports career as they could not take part in National Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games. Players of only recognised sport events are given benefits of scholarship, awards, cash prizes and reservation in employment in the Government Departments.
