Police are an integral part of society: Governor Tandon

Governor Lalji Tandon said that the police are an integral part of society. Without active participation of police it is not possible to foster the idea of development. He was addressing Police Commemoration Day programme held at Shaheed Smarak of Lal Parade Ground in State capital on Monday. He said “due to the discipline and fraternity of the peace loving people of the State, it has gained credibility in the country today. We are all one despite cultural diversity. To maintain this atmosphere, the common man should become an ally of the police.” He said that the Police Department will have to continue making better efforts to maintain law and order situation.
 
He lauded the police department for law and order, achievements, quick investigation of crimes and the rise in number of cases in which the accused have been punished. He said that it is a matter of pride for all of us that the police of our state are counted among the best forces in the country. He said that police forces should deal strictly with anti-social elements and anti-national forces. The department should also ensure that there should be no injustice towards innocent persons and that the general public feels safe. Expressing gratitude to the families of the martyred policemen, the Governor said that they should not feel themselves alone in this hour.
 
The government of Madhya Pradesh, the police administration and the entire society is with them. Special Director General of Police Vijay Yadav informed that this year two jawans of Madhya Pradesh Police have laid down their lives for the country. He said that on October 21, 1959, a patrolling team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was ambushed by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh. In this encounter, ten jawans lost their lives. This day is celebrated by all the police units of the country in memory of those immortal martyrs. At the beginning of the programme, the Governor was presented with the list of martyred policemen who were to be honoured.
 
The list containing the names of the police officials/employees who sacrificed their lives from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019 was read and they were offered floral tributes. The Governor met the families of Head Constable of the State police Martyrs Umesh Babu and Constable Brijesh Rawat and consoled them. On this occasion, Chief Secretary S R Mohanty, Principal Secretary (Home) S N Mishra, family members of martyred policemen and police officers and jawans were present.
