83.27% power consumers benefitted under ‘Indira Grih Jyoti Yojana’

Appreciating the result of ‘Indira Grih Jyoti Yojana’, State Energy Minister Priyavrat Singh said that Government is providing Rs one per unit electricity (up to 100 unit) to the people having maximum usage as 150 unit. He said 97,40,699 (83.27 percent) household consumers have been benefitted with the scheme. He said currently there are 1,16,97,880 household electricity users in State. Under this scheme, 86.81 percent consumers in Purv Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company, 79.60 percent consumers in Madhya Kshetra and 82.35 percent consumers in Paschim Kshetra are getting benefits.
 
He informed that Government is providing annual subsidy of Rs 3400 crores under this scheme. Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Minister Priyavrat Singh alleged that BJP Government was earlier running Sambal Yojana which benefitted only 35.72 percent consumers. He further added that families below poverty line (BPL), Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST) are being charged only Rs 25 for maximum 30 unit of monthly electricity consumption.
 
There is also arrangement of charging Rs 100 on every four months. Minister Priyavrat Singh said that electricity charges for agriculture pump consumers (up to ten horse power) has been reduced by half as Rs 700 per horse power annually. This is benefiting about 19.91 lakh farmers in state. He said under this scheme, Rs 47 thousand is being given as annual subsidy to every farmer.
 
He said that Government has provided subsidy of Rs 2622.53 crores for this scheme. From October 2019 to Match 2020, provision has been made to provide subsidy of Rs 6137.94 crores to 20.10 lakh agriculture pumps under the scheme. State Congress Media President Shobha Ojha and Vice President Abhay Dubey were also present during the interaction.
