MUMBAI :

Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said that Gandhi’s allegations had brought ignominy to the country

ARMED with the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Rafale issue, BJP activists on Saturday staged a protest here seeking an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi had been critical of the Modi Government over the deal to purchase 36 fighter jets from France’s Dassault Aviation. The protest was held as part of the BJP plan to hold nationwide demonstrations on the issue. On the occasion, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said Gandhi’s allegations had brought ignominy to the country.

He said that Gandhi’s apology to the SC for dragging its name in the political discourse on Rafale is not enough. “They (Gandhi and the Congress) tried to humiliate the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has given the country a place of pride in the world, only out of their self-interest. They brought ignominy to India in the world,” Patil said. “Apologising before the court alone won’t suffice. Gandhi and the Congress should apologise to the country,” he added. Congress workers fight with police during counter rally against BJP demonstration on Rafale: THE Congress workers had a scuffle with police on Saturday during a counter rally they had organised against BJP demonstration outside their party headquarters in Kolkata on Rafale issue, police said.

Delhi BJP protests near AAP office

NEW DELHI :

THE Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday protested near the Aam Aadmi Party office here against the “baseless allegations” levelled by the party in the Rafale jet deal, two days after the Supreme Court rejected pleas to review its judgment giving clean chit to the Modi Government. Led by Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, the party workers raised slogans against the AAP and demanded an apology from it for trying to “malign the image” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Friday, the Delhi BJP protested had near the Congress headquarters demanding an apology from it over the issue. It said in a statement that it organised the protests against the “malicious and baseless allegations” of corruption levelled in the Rafale deal. In February, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had demanded that an “independent” CBI raid the PMO, seize files and make arrests in connection with the controversial deal.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected pleas for a review of its December 2018 verdict in which it had said that there was no occasion to doubt the decision-making process in the multi-billion-dollar deal. However, a separate and concurring verdict by Justice K M Joseph said the judgment “would not stand in the way” of the CBI from taking action on the complaint for lodging of an FIR.
