FDA seizes edible oil worth Rs 20,20,717

 Under a special drive, the FSOs found violation of different provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 during inspections at oil trading companies.

Food Safety Officers (FSOs) of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Nagpur division, on Saturday, seized edible oil worth Rs 20,20,717 under a special drive. According to Joint Commissioner (FDA) Chandrakant Pawar, “FDA had conducted a special drive against the food products. As a part of the drive, a team of FSOs conducted inspections of M/S Dixita Trading Company; Tanker No. MH 35/K-1411 of Anand Santosh Kesharwani and M/S Jethanand Company at Ambedkar Nagar Square, Central Avenue. Suspecting adulteration in the edible oil, the samples were taken and sent for analysis to Food Testing Laboratory. These food joints were not having advanced testing laboratory for edible oil and no record about cleanliness, sanitation and sale purchase was found during the inspection.
 
This has been a clear violation of different provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. FSOs had seized the remaining stock.” FSOs had collected three samples of Refined Soybean Oil from M/S Dixita Trading Company, Ambedkar Chowk, Central Avenue and seized the remaining stock of 20,270 kg of oil worth Rs 17,02,695. The FSOs had found a tanker of one Anand Santosh Kesharwani of Refined Soybean Oil at Lalganj area.
 
They collected one sample of the same oil and seized remaining stock of 1,078 Kg worth Rs 90, 586. In another case, FSOs collected three samples of Refined Soybean Oil from M/S Jethanand Company, Jeevandhara Society, Ambedkar Square, Central Avenue. Remaining stock of said oil weighing 2,740 kg worth Rs 2,27,436 was seized. In all, the stock of refined Soybean Oil weighing 24,096 Kg worth Rs 20,20,717 has been seized by FDA. Under the guidance of Joint Commissioner, C B Pawar, FSOs (Vigilance) Abhay Deshpande, along with FSOs Manoj Tiwari, Smita Babhare and Mahesh Chahande had conducted the inspection and seized the stock. C B Pawar has appealed to the citizens that if they have any complaint against the quality and standards of any food item they should directly contact Office of FDA on Phone 0712-2562204. FDA will continue the special drive against food items in future also, he added.
