Police crack two separate cases of burglaries

Raipur Police on Saturday claimed to have cracked two separate cases of burglaries, including at the residence of Bemetara Collector Sikha Rajput Tiwari, by arresting two thieves from Kolkata. “In connection with burglary reported at Raipur-based residence of Bemetara Collector Sikha Rajput Tiwari, a special team constituted to probe the case arrested two thieves from Kolkata. From their possession, police have recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments to the tune of around Rs 10 lakh,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur.
 
The ASP further informed that the arrested were identified as Akhilesh Bangoliya (27) of Arang and Om Prakash Yadav (31), hailing from Janjgir-Champa district. The arrested were working as a daily wage workers in Forest Department and residing in the city. The duo also broke into the house of Raipur Municipal Corporation’s Sub Engineer Akshay Bharadwaj on October 26. Earlier, the accused have spent jail term under preventive section.
 
Shedding more details about the case, ASP Thakur said “after committing the burglaries on October 26 and October 27, the duo fly to Kolkata where they were arrested by the city police with the help of Kolkata police. Based on technical evidences coupled with footages gathered from CCTV cameras installed under Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), the identity of burglars was ascertained and the team was dispatched to Kolkata.
 
The accused duo brought here on transit remand has been produced in a local court here and the court has granted their Police Custody Remand (PCR) till November 4.” It may be recalled that on October 27, the duo broke into the house of Collector Sikha Rajput Tiwari on October 27 and decamped with valuables to the tune of around Rs 6.72 lakh. An offence in this connection was registered with Civil Lines Police station under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) and 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
