Satpura Reserve welcomes four tiger cubs

There is good news for wildlife lovers as four new-born tiger cubs have been spotted in Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR). The cubs are about three months old. In camera trap, all the four cubs are looking healthy. STR Director S K Singh said that the four cubs are roaming along with the tigress. However, it is not possible to go closer to the cubs because of mother tigress but a team is continuously monitoring them. “We are happy to see the rising population of felines in our reserve area and all possible efforts are being made for the safety of wildlife.
Currently, we have about 52 tigers in STR, including 18 tigresses. A team is monitoring the new-born cubs and tigress for safety purpose,” added S K Singh. He further said that tigress become aggressive if anyone tries to go closer for safety purpose of cubs. He said that the team is monitoring cubs and tigress from certain distance and cameras are placed there to keep an eye on them. In tiger census report 2018 released about a few months back, Madhya Pradesh was declared ‘Tiger State’ with highest 526 tigers. The reserve was re-opened for the tourist after monsoon break on October 16.
Within 15 days of re-opening of the reserve, tigress has been spotted with four new-born cubs that brought laurels to the officials as well as tourists. Within 15 days of re-opening the park, 500 tourists visited only in Madhai and Bori-Chruna range. After monsoon, roads have been repaired in STR and online booking for Madai and Parsapani was started from October 1. S K Singh said that it is very common to see tiger in core area and only reserve guides are allowed in the area for tourists. Parsapani and Jamanidev areas come under Buffer zone where private taxi and guards are allowed for the tourist.
Earlier, all the reserves were supposed to reopen on October 1 but due to prolonged Monsoon, it could not re-open on given date. After repairing the roads and preparations, parks and wildlife sanctuaries reopened for the tourist from October 16. This year tiger reserves and national parks are expecting good number of tourist after re-opening of parks. Most of the resorts at tiger reserves, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries have witnessed full booking even one month before re-opening this season owing to the rising population of tigers.
