ADG Sanjeev Kumar Singhal cautioned the police personnel against sharing interpersonal grievances with the news media

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) (Administration) of Maharashtra police Sanjeev Kumar Singhal has issued a circular cautioning police personnel against sharing interpersonal grievances with the news media. He urged the police personnel to submit formal complaints to their superior officers instead of going to the media. The circular states that any police personnel found bad-mouthing their colleagues, without following due procedure, will be liable for action.

A senior police official said that the circular was issued on last month following an annual conference of representatives from all commissionerates in the State. The circular has been signed by Additional Director General of Police (Administration) Sanjeev Kumar Singhal and refers to a suggestion made by the Pimpri Chinchwad commissionerate. The circular states, “It has been observed that some personnel, instead of submitting proper applications to seniors, regarding their grievances, are directly approaching the news media and defaming officers whom they have grievances against.

This affects the image of the police force. It is necessary to take strict disciplinary action against personnel who do so, especially if, after an inquiry, no substance is found in their claims.” A top offficial in state police said that there is no data on the such incidents. “It is a general reiteration of already existing instructions, which was made after the issue was discussed at the conference,” he said. The circular refers to the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules and directs all unit heads to take action against errant personnel.
