Itkelwar bags natl bronze

Becomes just second player from Nagpur after international runner Rajeev Balakrishnan to win medal in 100m dash SPRINTER Om Rajendra Itkelwar became just second athlete from the city to win a medal in 100m run in a national championship. Competing in the Under-14 boys race, he won a bronze in the 35th National Junior Athletics Championship in progress in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. Representing Maharashtra, Itkelwar finished third behind Telangana’s Gowtham Alluri (11.62) and Deepak Toppo (11.63) of Jharkhand to win the medal with a timing of 11.85 seconds.
 
Before him, international runner Rajeev Balakrishnan was the only player from Nagpur to have won a medal in the 100m dash at national level. The event is being held under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India. Student of Pandit Bachchraj Vyas Vidyalaya and a member of Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal, Itkelwar trains under Jitendra Ghordadekar.
 
Nagpur District Athletics Association Secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi congratulated both Itkelwar and his coach. President Gurudeo Nagrale, Umesh Naidu, SJ Anthony, Nagesh Sahare, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Ravindra Tong, Vibekanand Singh, Archana Kottewar, Dr Pinak Dande, Avinash Sahare, Ram Wani, Bunty Yadav and others congratulated Itkelwar for his record-equalling feat.
