Japan Govt gives Rs 58 lakh aid to Vivekanand Medical Mission

Consul-General of Japan Michio Harada calls the help given by people of his country to India 
 
“This is the small assistance to the hospital from the people of Japan. This may be small in terms of amount but not in terms of effectivity,” expressed Michio Harada, Consul-General of Japan in Mumbai. Government of Japan has extended grant assistance of Rs 58 lakh to Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission for the project, ‘Project for provision of neurosurgery microscope in Nagpur district’. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed by Consul- General of Japan in Mumbai Michio Harada and Dr Dilip Gupta, Chairman of Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission. The programme was held at Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission, Khapri on Monday. With this assistance, Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission will procure operating microscope for neurosurgery.
 
This will help the medical mission in providing quality patient care and better treatment of neurological diseases. This in turn will reduce incidences of morbidity and mortality of patients. Since 1991, the Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai has granted 103 projects aggregating to about 7.08 million USD under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme in five states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhhattisgarh, Goa. Government of Japan has extended this grant under GGP scheme as a part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA). GGP scheme provides financial assistance to Non-Government Organisation (NGO) as well as non-profitable organisations. Its main scope encompasses primary health care, primary education, poverty alleviation, environment conservation, public welfare, empowerment of women etc.
 
In addition to the GGP scheme, the Government of Japan is also implementing many infrastructure projects such as Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor, Mumbai trans harbour Link among others in the country. Dr Dilip Gupta also spoke on the occasion while Ulhas Bujone, Secretary of Mission compered and proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Prashant Onkar who initiated this project, Anjali Pendse, Senior Specialist, Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai; Dr Arun Amle, Medical Superintendent, Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission; Yogesh Dharkar, Marketing Manager, Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC); Deepak Joshi, Public Relation Officer, MADC; Dr Jivesh Chavan, Aniruddha Pande and others also were present.
