THE ambitious Patanjali Food Park in the MIHAN-SEZ may not see light of the day if one takes stock of the present situation. The tentacles of the ongoing recession seems to have stung the Patanjali Food Park. If sources are to be believed, construction work of the project has been suspended as it defaulted on payments to the contractor. Now, 25 employees deployed for different work have been suddenly served with short leave notice of 15 days. Spread on an area of 234 acres, Patanjali Food Park was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at a glittering ceremony in September 2016. The project was scheduled to go on-stream from March 2019.

Even during the recent visit of Yog Guru Baba Ramdev to the city, he had promised to commence the production soon. However, the notices served to 25 employees have raised eyebrows among the trade and industry circle questioning the feasibility of the Patanjali Food Park. The project grabbed the headlines of the newspapers as it was allegedly allotted land at cheaper rates of Rs 25.50 lakh per acre.

It was also promised by the management of the Patanjali Food Park that the construction work would be completed within six months and in another 18 months, the production would start thereby offering employment large number of jobless people. Sources also informed that Patanjali’s Indore project is also facing rough weather due to paucity of funds. It was billed as Asia’s biggest food project having potential to change the economy of the region.
