Alert loco pilot of Jabalpur-Rewa train averts major tragedy

ALERTNESS of loco pilot of 51701 Jabalpur-Rewa Shuttle passenger train averted a major tragedy on Tuesday morning. The spontaneous decision to press emergency brakes averted derailment of four coaches run over a rail fracture on track on Tuesday morning. The incident took place with 51701 Jabalpur-Rewa Shuttle between near Sihora between Nivar and Katni South stations. Sensation prevailed and passengers panicked as information of passing of the train from a fractured track spread amongst passengers as train was stopped by applying emergency brakes.
 
In this incident, no one was hurt. According to information, when the train was running at its speed between Nivar and Katni South Stations, near Sihora a rail fracture was noticed by loco pilot but by the time the train was stopped around four coaches had already run over the fracture. Following this incident, the traffic was affected for almost one hour. Loco staff informed the Rail Control about the incident following which staff of the Engineering Department rushed to the spot and repaired the fracture by fixing clamps. Following which the train started its further journey. According to information, Loco Pilot Sushil Choudhary and ALAP Krishnaraj Shukla had responsibility to take Engine Number 11191 with train to Rewa. It is informed that when the train reached near the fracture at around 9.20 am after leaving Nivar Station and was progressing towards Katni South there was a fracture on the track.
 
While the train was moving at its speed and passed on fracture the loco pilot noticed something unusual and without wasting time he immediately applied emergency brakes and stopped the train. When ALP checked the track he observed rail fracture at 5th coach that means four coaches had already crossed the fracture. If the alert loco pilots would have not acted promptly and stopped the train in time then it would have resulted in a major tragedy. West Central Railway, Chief Public Relation Officer, Priyanka Dixit confirmed that the incident of passing of four coaches over rail fracture took place on Jabalpur Katni route. Prompt action by the loco pilots averted a major tragedy. For this alert action the staff will be reawarded as per norms.
