Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made an unexpected airdash late on Tuesday evening to call on Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), giving rise to various speculations about the purpose of the visit in the thick of uncertain political developments now ravaging the State for the past 10 days.

Though there was no official word about the subjects in discussion between the two leaders, they might have discussed the political situation in Maharashtra as well as the possible measures and official response to the conditions that may arise following the Supreme Court verdict in the Ramjanmabhoomi land title suit, sources speculated. Reaching the RSS Headquarters in Mahal at 9.30 pm, Fadnavis was closeted with Dr Bhagwat for one hour and thirty five minutes.

The Chief Minister appeared composed. He did not speak a word with the media gathered for the coverage, with a faint smile covering his face. This meeting assumes much importance in the given situation, particularly after extended discussions Fadnavis was reported to have had with Union Home Minister Amit Shah 24 hours earlier in New Delhi. Sources believe that despite the current uncertainties over Government formation in Maharashtra, sensible possibilities are emerging from the cacophony of statements and counter-statments creating a din.
