Road safety is still a matter for serious concern in the State Capital as people here largely lack traffic sense. Jumping traffic signal, ignoring zebra-crossing, driving on wrong side of the road, over-speeding, unnecessarily blowing horn (even in silent zone), overlooking prescribed sitting capacity of the vehicle and route assigned (to passenger vehicles), and others are some common scene in the State Capital leading to massive inconvenience to people who strictly comply traffic rule.

According to information received from Raipur Traffic Police, between March 6 and October 31 this year, 11,910 people were caught breaking rule by Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS). The figure may rise to multi-folds once all the cameras fixed with traffic single polls across the district under ITMS will be used to detect the violation.

Currently, breaking of traffic rules are being detected on specific routs of the city and soon it will be operational across Raipur. Officials further informed that between March 6 and October 31, 11910 challans to people have been issued for violating traffic rules. Of generated challans, 5,879 challans have been executed while 1,920 traffic violators were found unavailable at the address mentioned in the documents. Raipur Traffic Police are making massive efforts to ensure strict compliance of traffic rules and in this regard, soon cameras installed at all the traffic signals will be capturing violators
