It may be recalled that the new and modern Blast Furnace 8 named Mahamaya that was blown in on February 2, 2018, had crossed the 7.5 lakh Tonne milestone on August 29, 2018 — in less than 200 days since daily production began from the furnace. Production level mark of 5,000 T was crossed on April 11, 2018; the 6000 T mark was crossed on April 25, 2018 and production level mark of 7,000 T was crossed on January 9, 2019. Mahamaya is also the only large Blast Furnace in SAIL to achieve 7000 T level of daily hot metal production in less than a year of its commissioning.

Daily Hot Metal Production from the Plant’s largest blast furnace has risen steadily since then. BF 8 recorded a high of 7,575 Tonnes on February 21, 2019, a record that was broken on October 15, 2019 with Hot Metal Production of 7605 Tonnes. The cumulative production from BF 8 crossed the 1 million tonne mark on October 18, 2018, (256 days after its blowing-in) and the landmark of 2 million tonne cumulative hot metal production on April 1, 2019 while, 3 MT milestone was crossed on September 9, 2019. The furnace achieved these three milestones of cumulative production faster than two other furnaces of similar capacity in Rourkela and ISP, Burnpur sister plants. The Operations and Maintenance personnel of Team Mahamaya have worked with associated depts., and all other agencies engaged with daily production and upkeep of the new and modern furnace, inspite of upstream and downstream constraints.
