After getting no response on paddy procurement issue from the Centre, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is all set to lead the biggest ever demonstration by any State Government against the Centre on November 13, where a convoy of 600 vehicles with 20,000 Congress workers and office-bearers, will be leaving for the national capital. However, it is being anticipated considering the present condition of New Delhi, where it is on high alert over pollution issue as it is countering a strong haze in its environment coupled with the on-going stir and face-off between Delhi Police Parivar and Delhi Lawyers, the convoy might be denied the permission to enter anywhere near Delhi.

Earlier, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his Government had launched a movement raising the issue of Central Government’s permission for paddy procurement from farmers at Minimum Support Price of Rs 2,500 per quintal and procurement of 32 lakh metric tons of rice from Chhattisgarh for central pool. However, after getting no encouraging response from the centre on the issue, the Chief Minister has given the ‘Delhi Chalo’ call. Hence, the Chief Minister, with assistance from CPCC office-bearers and members, have already initiated signature campaign at the booth-level and other necessary preparations for the mega demonstration. It may be recalled that CPCC President Mohan Markam had recently threatened that the centre loves coal, bauxite, iron-ore, cement, power, water, forest produce from Chhattisgarh but it doesn’t want to take the paddy crop produced by hard working farmers here. He further threatened that if the centre doesn’t respect the hard work of farmers from Chhattisgarh, the people of Chhattisgarh will be compelled for economic blockade.

The Congress has been arranging resources for the mega demonstrations. Accordingly, the vehicles, which would be used, will be personal vehicles of Congress leaders and they will have to take care of diesel and other related expenses. The convoy will carry their ration along with pandals and public address systems. The convoy leaving Chhattisgarh on November 13 is intending to reach New Delhi on November 15 passing through Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, district Congress leaders, MLAs, block President are engaged in signature campaign.
