Indian Army’s nod to display of Vijayanta tanks at Kasturchand Park

Heritage Committee has approved proposal of North Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub-Area of Indian Army for static display of two Vijayanta tank at Kasturchand Park (KP). The two tanks had played pivotal role in Indo-Pak war. Umang, the Sub-Area Headquarters that has now functioning from city, forwarded the proposal and Committee that held its meeting at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) granted its seal of approval. The Committee unanimously approved the proposal as it was felt that the tanks would add to charm of KP that is now undergoing a transformation and being developed as a tourist attraction in city. The tanks have reached city and its maintenance would be with the Army.
 
At the meeting, Architect Ashok Mokha tabled a proposal urging authorities to grant permission for putting on display four ancient cannons that were found during the digging of ground at Kasturchand Park. The Heritage Committee would request District Collector to forward its proposal to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for parting with prized discovery for display at KP.
 
These cannons it is estimated dates back to 300-years and were used by Bhonsla King during battle for Sitabuldi Fort with British Army that time. The Heritage Committee returned proposal to Maha Metro about redevelopment of Zero Milestone. The Metro mooted its idea that however failed to find favour with Committee members. A presentation was made at the meeting as per directives of High Court but several lacunae were found and same was returned to Metro.
 
The meeting had participation of Rajesh Mohite, Deputy Commissioner; NMC, Sunil Dahikar, Officiating Joint Director, Town Planning, NMC, and Member Secretary, Supriya Thool, Member, Assistant Director, Town Planning, NMC; Dr Tapan Chakraborty, Dr Shubha Johari, Ujjwala Chakradeo, Ar. Ashok Mokha, all Members; besides Col. Rakesh Kumar, North Maharashtra and Gujarat sub-area.
