Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to increase the strength of staff working with its Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS). The present strength of the squad is 87 and NMC has fixed some target for them as to how many people they should catch and fine them. Daily this squad fines 500 people which according to Abhijeet Bangar, Municipal Commissioner is not enough. “If we need to make city clean on the lines of Indore then we have to exert more efforts.

Present strength of 87 people is not enough. I am planning to make it 200. We have 151 posts sanctioned and we can add 50 more. If our strength becomes 200 then we can catch people doing nuisance,” pointed out Bangar. There are several people who urinate in public places, many people throw garbage as per their whims and fancies, several people burn the garbage unnecessarily, too many people are habitual of spitting in the middle of the road or on the walls. Such people needed to fined. Bangar felt, unless actions are not increased its effect cannot make any impact.

Between December 2017 and October 2019, NDS has taken action against 777 people related to coaching classes, educational institutions, people throwing garbage on the road and recovered a fine of Rs 5.87 lakh. Mangalwari, Nehrunagar and Laxminagar zones are ahead of other zones. In Mangalwari zones actions are taken against 207 institutions or people. In Nehrunagar zone 48 hospitals, pathlabs, mall, lodging, restaurants, cinema halls, Mangal Karyalaya, caterers have been fined.
