KRML into withdrawal mode, Municipal Commissioner appeals people to cooperate as garbage collection gets irregular across city In ensure city wears a clean look, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is planning to introduce machines for sweeping streets. The process has already started. Within 15 days a tender would be finalised. After the process gets finalised, Nagpurians will see machines sweeping Nagpur streets clean, from January 31, 2020. “We have now cement roads everywhere, cleaning those can be easier if mechanical street sweeping is done. We will allot the work of this mechanical street sweeping to an agency which will have truck mounted machines.

Before January 31, 2010, machines will be procured. The agency will also clean footpaths. Cutting shrubs will also be done mechanically which will have accuracy too,” said Abhijeet Bangar, Municipal Commissioner. Everybody is aiming Nagpur city to wear a look like Indore, the city with garbage-free streets. There are several minute aspects of cleanliness like place between road and footpath and to clean that particular portion is very difficult. The machine will do it properly. At this juncture, there is no positive picture about garbage and Bangar has admitted this. With two new agencies taking over the garbage collection work in city from November 16, the current agency -- Kanak Resources Management Limited (KRML) has gone into withdrawal mode.

NMC is finding itself helpless in monitoring garbage collection. The Municipal Commissioner issued notices to Kanak but in vain! Bangar has appealed people to cooperate. He is taking measures but the management of human resource is very difficult. “From November 16, new agency will take over. We are conducting day-to-day basis meetings. Vehicles of AG Environ have started arriving and BVG, too, would start bringing its vans. Soon Nagpur’s garbage collection will be streamlined,” Bangar expressed hope. “We will focus on segregation of waste for which we will not only promote our ideas through media but also through several social organisation, Door-to-door collection is very important.

We will keep reminding people of segregation. We will request everybody, if needed we will impose fine too, else it cannot be done. By reminding them about the last day, we will make everybody compulsory to segregate the garbage which is the need of the hour,” pointed out Bangar firmly. Give priority to locals, demands Abha Pande Abha Pande, corporator called on Abhijit Bangar, Municipal Commissioner. She demanded that with the garbage collection work being handed over to new agencies, priority should be given to locals. Those who worked with Kanak Resources Management Limited should be absorbed by new company, suggested Pande. “The 9.6 clause of agreement between the company and NMC clearly says ‘The successful operator shall give preference to existing manpower if existing manpower shows willingness’. So, NMC must consider this”, Pande pointed out. Bangar assured Pande to consider the issue of locals.
