BHEL Bhopal’s Hydro Division successfully tests valve for hydro project

BHEL Bhopal’s Hydro Division has successfully Hydro tested the first uniquely designed 170 tonne, 5.2 metre diameter Butterfly Valve for (4X111 Megawatt) Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydroelectric project of THDC India Ltd., a joint venture of the Govt. of India & Govt. of UP. The test was carried out in presence of officials from THDC India Ltd. On this occasion C Ananda Executive Director BHEL, Bhopal; P K Mishra General Manager (Hydro & HR) and other senior officials were present.
 
The Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (4 x 111 MW) is located on Alaknanda River, a major tributary of river Ganga, in district Chamoli in the state of Uttarakhand. This is for the first time that double disc doors, service seals, and hydraulically operated maintenance seals were designed for butterfly valves of this large size. The butterfly valve weighing 170 tonne and 5.2-meter diameter, has been designed, fabricated and machined at BHEL, Bhopal.
