NEERI to act as Consultant on whose advice, civic body will move further

It is final. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to do rejuvenation of Naik Talao first. Earlier NMC had planned to go with the project involving Futala and Naik Talao both. But now NMC would go with Naik Talao only. Abhijeet Bangar, Municipal Commissioner told ‘The Hitavada’, “National Environmental Engineering and Research Institute (NEERI) had submitted Detailed Project Report (DPR) regarding rejuvenation of Naik Talao and we are working on it.

The work order has been issued for the same. NEERI would act as Consultant. The budget of this project is around Rs 4 to 5 crore. Futala lake rejuvenation work would be taken later.” NMC was to do rejuvenation of Futala and Naik Talao both. However this newspaper learnt that NMC has defered with the earlier plan and decided to go with Naik Talao only as Futala lake would be having some other developmental plan. Nagpur gets potable water from Ambazari and Gorewada lakes.

Mainly water from Pench gets stored in Gorewada where from it is distributed to the people. Water in other lakes can not be used for drinking purposes. But they can add to the beauty of the city plus can be helpful for maintaining the ground water level. They also benefit in keeping alive the flora and fauna. With this view NMC has taken up the project of lake rejuvenation. NMC found that sewer line were opening in those lakes. If lakes are cleaned from one side, the dirty water was getting released from the other side. This would not have given expected results so civic body sent the plan back to NEERI and asked them to prepare in a way so that the issue of sewage line would be resolved. Accordingly NEERI sent the report of Naik Talao to NMC as asked to it. It should be seen that sewage water should be diverted.
