Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari finally gave a nod to the much-delayed flyover at accident-prone Tatibandh Chowk on Thursday. Union Minister gave the clearance after meeting with Raipur MP Sunil Soni. Work on the project is expected to begin in the New Year. Tatibandh is one of the most crucial juncture on Raipur-Bhilai/Durg and Dhamtari-Bilaspur road. The convoluted design of the Tatibandh square has made it a dark-spot, causing fatal accidents regularly.

As the heavy vehicles plying all day seriously damage the road, motorists find it extremely difficult to not just navigate through the large water-filled potholes, but they also have to keep on guess as to what vehicle coming from what direction. These confusion and inconvenience often culminate fatally for the motorists, motorcyclists in particular. Previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government had sent a proposal for flyover across the Tatibandh Square to the Union Ministry. Final clearance to the project came on Thursday. Flyover will have four-lane on Raipur-Durg, Durg-Dhamtari and two-lane on Durg-Bhanpuri route.
