Historic move

Sir,
Amidst bilateral tensions between India and Pakistan, the Kartarpur corridor which will allow Indian pilgrims to make visa-free visits to Gurudwara built in Pakistan, is irrefutably historic.

The landmark agreement is welcomed by historians and critics alike. Even the slightest diversion of air of mistrust is to be welcomed. However, the initiative which is eminently reasonable and apolitical also needs to be protected from manipulation and distortion.

Protests against CAA

Sir,
The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) show no signs of abating with an air of discord and unease continuing to hang over much of the country. Protesters have raised the banner of revolt despite religious heads and BJP netas coming out with assurances that the interest of the minority community will be protected. It is heartening that the Government has expressed a willingness to accept suggestions, besides stressing that rules were not framed yet for implementation of the law and this must ease concerns. One’s heart goes out to the police force who have borne the brunt of the protesters’ fury that have turned violent and ugly in some places. On December 16, protest against CAA was organised by some communities and political parties in Tirupathur district of Tamil Nadu. N.J. Ravi Chander, Bengaluru
