GOODWILL GESTURE_1 &

THE Muslim community in Srinagar has shown an exemplary goodwill gesture in allowing demolition of a mosque to pave way for constructing a vital road bridge over the river Jhelum. The gesture by the community has cleared the way for completing the long awaited bridge as the mosque was one of the major bottlenecks besides residential and commercial establishments. A mosque holds high religiously sentimental value and hence Government authorities have to handle such issues with caution without hurting the sentiments of the people. The community in Srinagar must be lauded for this. The official who took the initiative to convince the community deserves all the kudos because the same official also earlier resolved the issue of a Gurudwara to undertake the construction of national highway. The country is replete with such instances of goodwill gestures. The construction of the Shriharikota satellite launch centre is a case in point where a church stood and the church people agreed to hand it over to Government for a national cause.
