COLD waves coming from North are plummeting the mercury fast. Chilly winds have changed climatic conditions in entire Madhya Pradesh, including Jabalpur. Following chilly winds, minimum temperature on Friday plummeted to 5 degrees Celsius.
It was coldest day of the season. Northern winds blowing with 6 to 8 Kmph have dropped both day and night temperature below normal range. It is adding to the chillness in the weather and making nights extremely cold.
People drape themselves in finest woollen clothes to counter biting cold. On Friday, the city recorded lowest temperature of the season i.e. 5 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal. Biting cold has forced people to remain indoors after evening. People are avoiding stepping out of their cozy houses at night.
City streets get deserted after 9 pm. Biting cold has started wreaking havoc on people of poor section as they work late in the night and have to spend chilly nights with the help of self-arranged bonfires. Jabalpur Municipal Corporation is yet to arrange bonfire at public places.
Lack of bonfire is proving dear to labour-class people like rickshaw-pullers, auto-rickshaw drivers who have to spend nights in want of passengers at railway stations and bus stands. Minimum temperature on Friday was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal range, while maximum temperature was recorded at 20.0 degrees Celsius, which was also minus five degrees than normal temperature. Humidity in the morning was 71 per cent, while in the evening it was 38 per cent. Last year, minimum temperature on this day was 8.1 degrees Celsius and maximum was 22.7 degrees Celsius. Spokesman of Weather Department informed that northern winds may continue to blow and mercury will dip further. Forecast has clearly indicated that Jabalpurians will have to face freezing cold in remaining days of the week.
