Sudden fall in temperatures in the region especially during night time not only causing shivering amongst citizen but also causing loss to the vegetable crops. The steep fall in temperature in the adjoining areas raised concern amongst farmers of frost hit due to low temperatures with chilly winds. Simultaneously, the sudden weather change brought activity in the woollen market which remained in silent mode in last fortnight. According to the Metrology Department, the snowfall in Himalayan states is behind the cold winds and thus in coming days also mercury would remain low. In previous year the woollen clothe sales started a little late following delayed weather change and fall in temperatures.

This year due to continuous disturbance in weather conditions the weather remain uncertain like previous season. Recent changes in weather have caused unrest amongst farmers, especially of green vegetable and rabbi crops. As the frost causes more losses to the crops in this season and all the standing crops got affected. Observing change in the weather the demand of wool thread has grown in comparison to previous years for handmade stitched and hand-woven sweaters.

The trend of hand stitched and woven sweaters are again in demand. As per the market trend the preparations in market got started with slight change in weather but steady fall in temperatures has turned the business brisk in shops. Agro Metrology at JNAU, Agriculture Scientist, Dr P P Singh informed that to prevent the crops from the hit of fog and frost the farmers have been advised to keep their irrigation system on so that moisture in the soil could be maintained and this moisture would prevent the crops from fog and frost hit. He said that traditionally smoke was created in farms to mitigate the effects of the fog and frost.
