SMC Heart Institute performed a rare surgery on a patient suffering from ruptured heart wall and heart attack. Dr Satish Suryavanshi, Director of SMC Heart Institute informed that a patient Lakhan Yadav (47) was referred to SMC heart institute from some other hospital at Raipur. Patient had suffered from heart attack. Patients electrocardiograpy showed complete blockage of heart vessel of right side and 90 percent blockage in left coronary artery. Eight hours after admission patient had fall in blood pressure and his blood pressure did not improve with even four drugs given to increase his blood pressure.

In such sever fall in blood pressure doctors suspected two things, one is blockage in heart valve and another is ventricular septal defect, hole in one of the heart wall. Echocardiography was done urgently to confirm, which showed big size ballooning of heart wall, Ventricular Septal Aneurysm and a big hole in heart wall, Ventricular Septal Rupture. Patient condition was very critical and to support his heart and increase blood pressure immediately.

A machine was used called Intra Aortic balloon pump, where a big balloon is inserted in Aorta of chest and abdomen. Team of doctors including cardiac surgeon Dr Ajay Chaurasia, Cardiologist, Dr S S Mohanty, Dr Satish Suryavanshi, Dr Tushar Malewar jointly performed rare operation of the patient and cured him. The case of surgery of a large ventricular septal aneurysm with septal rupture is first case of Chhattisgarh. SMC heart institute is the only Cardiac Institute in State to treat complex and difficult cardiac cases of all types, added Dr Suryavanshi.
