In a tragic incident, a man was killed and five were injured when a speeding bus rammed into a bicycle and plunged into a nullah in Surtalai culvert under the jurisdiction of Madhotal police station on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Umashankar Khamparia (45), resident of Auria village in Madhotal, while five injured include Balkishore Shukla (20), resident of Hardua in Panna district, Foola Bai Dubey (60), Akansha Pateria (13), residents of Sumer village in Begamganj, Raisen district, Avneesh Pandey (40), resident of Kanchanpur, Adhartal, Revti Bai (65), resident of Abhana, Nohta in Damoh district and others.
 
According to Madhotal police, receiving the information of an accident a police team reached the spot and found that a bus bearing registration number MP-15BA-0547 ferrying passengers from Deendayal Bus Stand towards Panna district was rammed into a by-cycle and uncontrolled bus was plunged into a nullah near a culvert in Surtalai village. In the mishap, a man named Umashankar Khamparia riding on a by-cycle succumbed to his grave injuries after being crushed under the wheels of bus while several persons travelling in the bus were injured.
 
The injured were rushed at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital with the help of 108 Ambulance Service and sent the body for post-mortem after conducting Panchnama. Madhotal police have registered a case under sections 304(A), 279 and 337 of the IPC and started a search to identify and apprehend the accused bus driver.
