After a successfully conducting “Vendor Development Programme” in association with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRL) here the members of Vidarbha Chapter of Chamber of Small Industry Associations (COSIA) met Dr Brijesh Dixit Managing Director- Metro Rail. Mayank Shukla, Chairman COSIA, led the delegation comprising Core Committee Members Sandeep Darwekar, Anant Kamthikar and Pranav Ambasalkar. The objective of the follow up meeting was to apprise Dr Dixit about the points raised by the participants during the interaction session of the programme.

COSIA members also put forward certain suggestions to encourage the business relationship between the local vendors, Maha Metro Rail Corporation Limited and its turn key project executors to cater the regular material requirements of the corporation and its project executors. In the suggestion note presented to MMRL, it was highlighted that corporation should empanel the local vendors under Tier-2 category to supply the material to Tier-1 category (Project Executors), as per their need on preferential basis. It was also requested that MMRL and their contractors must follow the standard procurement policy as per MSME Act that is minimum 25 per cent of their requirement through MSME sector out of which 4 per cent is reserved for SC/ST and 3 per cent for women entrepreneurs.

The payment to such vendors should also be made within a stipulated period of 45 days as per MSME guide lines, Shukla said while elaborating on suggestions made in the note. He also requested to waive off the empanelment registration charges which are very high for MSME vendors. MMRL which has come up with a huge investment from Centre and State funds has proved its merit by completing the Phase-1 part in the stipulated period. This has resulted in additional scope of work in the form of extended Pune Metro Project, Nasik Tyre Metro Project and Metro Coach Factory at Nagpur.

Thus Nagpur can dream to be a Metro Project Hub, that will change the scenario and make this industrially underdeveloped region progressive and prospective in the time to come, Shukla stated. “All this has been made possible only because of the sincere and tireless efforts of MMRL’S Managing Director Dr Dixit. The industrial fraternity also has high hopes from such a high profile personality and this can be seen from his positive attitude towards the development of this region,” he added.

During the meeting Dr Dixit gave a patient hearing to the members statement and assured them to do his best to implement the suggestions given to the maximum extent and help in creating a conducive atmosphere for industrial growth in this region by promoting local vendor ship. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited or Maha Metro Nagpur has earned its name for fulfilling their target of starting Phase-I of Nagpur Metro Rail project as per the schedule. The Phase-II of Metro Rail project, which will be extended from Butibori to Kanhan on North-South and Asoli, Hingna and Dattawadi on East-West corridor, is in the pipeline.
