Tributes paid to Dr Ambedkar on 64th ‘Mahaparinirvan Divas’

THE nation on Friday paid homage to the architect of Indian Constitution Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 64th death anniversary. Since Ambedkar’s death on this day in 1956, ‘Mahaparinirvan’ Divas is observed every year to pay tributes to the Bharat Ratna awardee.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, LS Speaker Om Birla, ex-PM Manmohan Singh and others paying homage to Dr. B R Ambedkar on 64th Mahaparinirvan Divas at Parliament Complex. (ANI) 
 
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders paid floral tribute to architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar on his death anniversary at the Parliament.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule were also present at the occasion to pay homage to Ambedkar.
 
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu paid homage to Ambedkar and wrote, “I pay my humble tributes and respects to the architect of the Constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Divas today.”
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said in a tweet that Ambedkar dedicated his life for social justice and gave a unique gift to the country in the form of the Constitution, which is the cornerstone of Indian democracy.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also paid floral tribute to the B R Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai.
 
He visited Chaityabhoomi, the site where Ambedkar was cremated after his death in 1956, on Friday morning and paid floral tribute to the Dalit icon. Chaityabhoomi, located in Dadar, Central Mumbai, attracts lakhs of Ambedkar followers every year on his death anniversary, which is observed as Mahaparinirwan Diwas. Speaking on the occasion, Thackeray said Ambedkar had rebelled against injustice. He said Ambedkar’s upcoming memorial at Indu Mill, also in Dadar, will be an inspiration to win the fight against injustice and discrimination.
 
The Mahavikas Aghadi Government is committed to the welfare of the poor and deprived sections of the society, the Chief Minister added.
 
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Assembly Speaker Nana Patole, Ministers Jayant Patil, Balasaheb Thorat and Subhash Desai and Mayor Kishori Pednekar were among other dignitaries who paid homage to Ambedkar.
