Chhattisgarh Police committed to eliminate Naxals: IG Gupta

CHHATTISGARH police are fully resolved and committed for eliminating Naxalism as many brave police officials and jawan laid down their lives while retaliating Maoists attacks and also compelling them to surrender within their terrain, asserted Himanshu Gupta, Inspector General of Police, Durg Police Range. He was addressing the media persons in aftermath of NIA Court granted bail to N Venkatrao alias Nakka, the National Coordinator of Central Committee of Maoists. NIA Court granted statutory bail to the Naxal N Venkatrao, as the investigation agency failed to put up chargsheet in the given 90 days. N Venkat Rao was arrested by Chhattisgarh police on December 23, 2018.
IGP, Himanshu Gupta specifically pointed out that during various anti-naxal operations, led by Chhattisgarh police from the front, as many 17 Maoists were eliminated in fierce encounters while 195 were arrested and the police also recovered weapons from their possession within the span of last three months. Apart from these 38 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along with detonators, remote trigger mechanisms etc. were also recovered in a huge quantity.

He informed that N Venkatrao alias Nakka Murthy was arrested from Rajnandgaon in December, 2018 along with recovery of explosive materials and other such stuffs. While citing the act concerned, IGP, Gupta stated that as per provisions under Unlawful Activity Prevention Act 1967, the accused involved in such activities are detained in jail for 180 days and the police were to produce challan within the given period. In the course of court proceedings the judicial remand of the accused N Venkat Rao was extended to April 4, 2019 and with adequate evidences the police were likely to produce chargesheet before April 4.
 
IGP, Gupta informed that in the meantime the lawyer of the accused moved the bail application and considering the Apex Court ruling (AIR February 13, 2019) the court granted bail to the accused N Venkat Rao. He also added that granting bail to the accused entirely depend upon discretion of the court. He reiterated that Rajnandgaon police has adequate evidences against the accused and it would submit chargesheet within week time after completing investigation.
