Voters’ awareness campaign organised at Chinar Park

On Tuesday, voters awareness camp was organised at Chinar Park in which volunteers informed slum women the importance of voting. Besides, an interactive session was also organised in which they were informed about the procedure and to carry important documents like voter card, Aadhaar card etc to vote. Only voteslip is not enough the voter much carry an original document of Aadhaar, or voter card. It was also informed that for Divyang people and senior citizens special queue is there. The session also felicitated women with medals for asking questions and participating it actively.
 
The programme was moderated by science communicator Sarika Gharu. She also advised general public especially senior citizens to vote early morning. She said that Voter Awareness Forums (VAFs) are informal forums for generating discussions and awareness around the electoral process, on the how, what and where of registration & voting, through the medium of real-time activities. This is the sixth one in the series.
 
Through such forums different organisation aims to spread voter awareness and facilitate voter education. Rathi Khatri, a college goer, expressed that developing the practice of informed and ethical electoral participation is vital to investment in future of democracy. During the event a quiz of 20-25 questions with all the members was also organised. Participants, especially women, from marginalised community were awarded in the end of the programme for active participation.
 
Besides, with kiosks and posters volunteers came together to build their own ballot which is an activity aimed at familiarising the members with the process by which the order of names of the candidates to appear on the ballot paper is decided. Through this activity volunteers made their own ballot paper with dummy (or real) candidates and all symbols including NOTA to inform the public. Before the session begins, participants were also asked to express their opinion on voting and procedures so as to know how much they are aware.
