Opposing suspension of first year student from hostel of Regional Institute of Education (RIE), large number of students continued their protest on Wednesday. College management also discussed the problems of students to avoid the demonstration but all talks failed as students were demanding several things. “We have accepted the genuine demands of students like library, water, stationery, students’ union poll, academic calendar, etc as these things are rights of students.

But we cannot accept all demands of students like 24x7 free roaming outside of hostel, non-vegetarian food in hostel, no leave application. Police team was also there is campus on Wednesday and if I have personally discussed the entire matter with senior police officials. In educational institute discipline is must but these students do not want to follow the rules and regulations,” said Nityanand Pradhan, Principal of RIE. He further said that he has personally discussed the problems of hostellers and also assured to solve the possible demands. He said all demands cannot be fulfilled as these students are here to study and they have to be in discipline. There are about 200 students from Vinay Niketan and Shanti Niketan hostels of RIE gathered to demonstrate against the management. They also displayed posters and pamphlets against the management and raised slogan for justice. According to a demonstrating student, a B.Ed first year student applied for week-long leave on March 21.

She sought leave from management on account of suffering from depression. She wished to spend time at home after taking leave from college. The student consulted AIIMS doctor for the depression disorder. Students said that unfortunately, doctor forget to sign the OPD slip which created confusion before hostel warden. Students alleged that after applying for the leave, college management suspended her from hostel and said that college management would not be responsible for any happenings that held under depression. Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Principal Nityanand Pradhan said that student was suspended from hostel as she was trying to present a fake medical prescription. “In suspension letter it was clearly mentioned that the student has some moderate depression disorder as stated by herself and some representative of the respective hostel. She has obtained a false prescription from AIIMS. The decision has taken to avoid any unforeseen incident in future” added Principal Pradhan.
