Efforts to ensure over 80 pc voting in Balaghat district: CEO Kanta Rao

Chief Electoral Officer V L Kanta Rao, on Thursday, conducted a detailed review of the preparations and security arrangements in Balaghat district headquarters for the Lok Sabha elections. Rao said that due to Naxal menace, special vigilance is being maintained in the district on the directives of the Election Commission of India.
 
Additional security forces are being provided to the State this year as compared to the Lok Sabha elections held in 2014. Rao said that the additional security force will be deployed only in Balaghat district. He appreciated the co-ordination between the district administration and the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. Polling in Naxal-affected areas is from 7 am to 4 pm Kanta Rao said that voting will take place in the polling centres of 3 Naxal-affected Assembly constituencies of Balaghat district, including Baihar, Lanji and Paraswada, from 7 am to 4 pm.
 
In the remaining constituencies of the district voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. He said that keeping in view the summer season, shelter and drinking water will be arranged in all polling stations on the voting day. He said that Balaghat district has been leading district in voting percentage. Efforts are being made to ensure more than 80 percent polling in Balaghat district in Lok Sabha elections-2019.
 
Among those present in the review meeting included Additional Director General of Police G P Singh, Inspector General, Law and Order, Yogesh Choudhary, Inspector General of Police Balaghat Range K P Venkateswara Rao, Divisional Commissioner Jabalpur Rajesh Bahuguna and District Collector and Superintendent of Police.Appreciated ‘Road of Democracy’ for voter awareness: Kanta Rao appreciated people for making the road from Ambedkar Chowk to Jai Stambh Chowk in Balaghat as the ‘Road of Democracy’ under voters’ awareness campaign. He also observed the election-related rangoli designs and paintings made by youth and students on the road.
