Chhattisgarh Government wrote to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Subrat Sahoo seeking consent of Election Commission of India for constituting Judicial Inquiry Commission in connection with the brutal killing of BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi on April 9. Addressing a press conference at State party office Rajiv Bhawan, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee’s Communication Department Chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that Secretary of General Administration Department Reeta Shandilya has written a letter to the CEO on April 10. At present, Model Code of Conduct is in force in the State for the Lok Sabha elections.

Without permission of the Election Commission of India, the State Government cannot announce the constitution of the Judicial Inquiry Commission in this matter, he added. Trivedi criticised the BJP leaders after BJP National President Amit Shah and National Vice President Dr Raman Singh accused Bhupesh Baghel Government and demanded CBI inquiry into the killing of BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi. Accusing the BJP of double standards, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that when 13 Congress leaders were killed in Jhiram Ghati Naxal attack on March 25, 2013 the BJP Government didn’t give permission for the CBI inquiry into the Jhiram Ghati Naxal attack even after Dr Raman Singh had promised in the assembly for a CBI inquiry. CPCC In-charge General Secretary Girish Dewangan criticised former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh’s remark on Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as “Chhota Aadmi”.

Dewangan said that CPCC President Bhupesh Baghel comes from a family of farmers and such silly remark should not be used against CM Bhupesh Baghel. Congress party registered a massive victory under the leadership of Bhupesh Baghel in the Assembly elections, he added. After this, the Congress leaders launched a campaign to write their names as “Chhota Aadmi” on their Twitter, Facebook profile and WhatsApp status. CPCC’s Medical Department Chairman Dr Rakesh Gupta and Chief Spokesman Sushil Anand Shukla were also present at the press conference.
