A day after city witnessed two major fire incidents in Marwadi Road and Govindpura Industrial Area respectively claiming a trader’s life, another fire broke out at the workshop of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday afternoon. The transformer in the workshop had a spark that led to the fire. No major loss was reported from the site, though. Only used wheels were there that were burnt and the fire was doused within an hour.

According to A K Raghuvanshi, Assistant Engineer in the BMC, the old tyres were there when the fire triggered by the spark broke out, as it was wind blowing through it. However, the fire was doused and no other loss was reported in the area. The workshop had over 10 BMC sanitation vehicles that were around 20 meters away. If the fire had spread, the vehicles would have been damaged in it. BMC pressed two fire tenders in the service and within an hour the fire was doused, said Raghuvanshi. This was the second incident in a span of twenty-four hours where spark in a transformer has led to fire in Bhopal. The other incident that occurred in Tuesday had gutted a building and left one dead in Kotwali area. On the other hand, the fire that had broken out in the godown of a Hindi daily newspaper located at Govindpura Industrial Area on Tuesday evening lasted for over 24 hours. The godown had two full trucks of rolls of paper and other things.

As the fire broke out on Tuesday evening, the BMC pressed around ten fire tenders to douse the flames but as it spread, six tenders and tankers were also sent to the area. The fire which started around 7:15 pm, however, lasted for over 24 hours even after it was raining in evening and night it could be controlled in the wee hours of Wednesday, as the tin roof was deterring the rain water from passing inside. However, firemen said only 600 paper rolls were destroyed and no other items were gutted in the inferno and there was no causality reported.
