Loan SharkS: Notorious Tomar brothers, one other booked on extortion charges

President of Karni Sena and three others including his younger brother, were arrested for allegedly blackmailing a jeweller by threatening to release his private video clippings. The accused Karni Sena president was also collecting massive amount from some businessmen in the city by imposing heavy interest rate on money lend to them. “The accused loan shark identified as Virendra Singh Tomar alias Ruby Singh was extorting a jeweller for past few years on the threat of releasing some video clippings involving him. By imposing exorbitant interest rate, accused Tomar has recovered over Rs 1 crore from the victim jeweller identified as Jai Kumar Badlani against Rs 5 lakh lend to him,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur.
 
ASP further informed that Virendra Singh Tomar and his accomplices Kamal Kurre, Vinod Chourasiya and Raj Aaryan were arrested by police in three separate cases registered with Kotwali and Kabir Nagar police station while search is on for Virendra’s brother Rohit Singh Tomar, who is presently absconding. Giving more information about the crime, ASP Thakur said “In preliminary police investigation, it was learnt that after befriending Jai Kumar Badlani, Raj Aryan has filmed his private video and started extorting him. After Badlani expressed his inability to pay the amount demanded by Raj Aryan, the latter introduced him to Tomar brothers as part of their pre-planned conspiracy.
 
As demanded by Badlani, Tomar has lent Rs 5 lakh to him at interest rate of Rs 5,000 per day and later the amount has been increased to Rs 10,000. The accused has forcefully collected signature of Badlani on stamp-papers and also got blank cheques signed by him.” To exploit Badlani, Rohit Singh Tomar has purchased some jewellery from the victim’s shops and instructed him to adjust the amount in transactions between them by making small payment, added ASP Thakur. Moreover, the accused along with his goons stormed into the house of Badlani and snatched his wife’s ornaments, said a police sources.Alarmed by the pressure and threats from the accused side, the victim businessman approached police following which an offence was registered and they were arrested, ASP Thakur informed.It may be recalled that several criminal cases including a murder case, were pending against the accused.
 
“After taking prior permission from court, police will be launching an investigation to ascertain how Tomar, who was running a cart outside a liquor shop in Raipur few years back, has managed to amass such huge asset,” said Kotwali City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Dev Charan Patel, elaborating that police has also initiated process to ensure externment of the arrested accused.In this connection, two offences were registered with Kotwali police station and one with Kabir Nagar police station under Sections 294, 323, 327, 384, 506B, 34 and 120B of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounting to obscene acts and songs; punishment for voluntarily causing hurt; voluntarily causing hurt to extort property, or to constrain to an illegal act; punishment for extortion; punishment for criminal intimidation; acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and punishment of criminal conspiracy, and under relevant Section of Money Lending Act, said police, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
