Khargone: Bharatiya Janata Party’s stronghold

Khargone Parliamentary Constituency No-27 is another strongest seat for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since previous three Lok Sabha Elections. None of the candidates from Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress Party was repeated in previous three elections but BJP proved its strong hold in the constituency. BJP’s Krishna Murari Moghe won the 2004 election but Congress’ candidate Arun Yadav defeated him in 2007 by-election by the lead of 1.18 lakh votes. The constituency was reserved for schedule tribe candidates in 2009 election. BJP retained its strength in 2009 election as its candidate Makhan Singh Solanki and the victory run was continued in 2014 with the candidature of Subhash Patel. Khargone is one of the largest populated constituencies with more than 17 lakh voters and no other party or individual could prove their strength in the constituency.
 
 
In the Lok Sabha Election – 2014, a total number of 11,52,674 electors (67.67 percent) exercised their franchise out of total 17,03,272 voters. Total eight nominations were filed and eight candidates contested election. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Subhash Patel (6,49,354 votes) registered victory against Congress’ candidate Ramesh Patel (3,91,475 votes) by a long margin of 2,57,879 votes. Besides this, Aam Aadmi Party’s Kailash Awasya (31,222 votes), Communist Party of India’s Jyoti Gore (25,930 votes), Independent candidate, Gaffar Noor Mohammed (8,553 votes), Aadijan Mukti Sena’s Gangaram Pratap Gawle (8,544 votes), Bahujan Samaj Party’s Naharsingh Richhuji Barde (8,266 votes) and Independent candidate Kailash Patel (7,040 votes).
 
 
IN the Lok Sabha Election – 2009, total 7,60,559 residents (60.19 percent) used their voting rights against total number of 12,63,561 voters. Total 17 nominations were filed, five were rejected, one was withdrawn and(Contd on page 4)
