Opposing the FIR lodged against professors of Makhanalal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (MCNUJC), Academicians of Freedom said that it attack on education system. Addressing the mediapersons on Saturday, Rajya Sabha member Rakesh Sinha said that FIR has been lodged in the criminal department of police (EOW) on 20 professors and ex-Vice Chancellor of the university without any valid enquiry. He said before taking such a strict action against professors, their statement should be recorded.

He said it is only one-sided action of the Government. Members of the ‘Academicians for Freedom’ urged the Vice President of India to probe this matter and withdraw the FIR. Three days back these professors wrote the Vice President to withdraw the FIR as according to them it is one-sided action. More than 300 teachers, VC and registrars are member of this forum. In the memorandum, they said that they are rudely surprised and shocked at the Chairman, Governing Council, of the university instructing the registrar to lodge an FIR against the former Vice Chancellor and twenty existing faculty members on various uninvestigated and unproved charges.

Extreme steps, such as lodging an FIR against university teachers, can and must logically follow an adequate enquiry and a notice seeking explanation. Even after that, as good practice, a full fledged impartial enquiry must be held because the concerned people are university teachers and highly responsible citizen as such. They said, they are afraid that this hasty action would be seen as smacking of political vendetta.
