BJP fields Shankar Lalwani from Indore

BJP has finally named Shankar Lalwani as Lok Sabha candidate for Indore seat on Sunday. With this mystery of who will be the face for BJP from Indore seat has ended. Lalwani is considered close to sitting MP from Indore and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Lalwani will contest Lok Sabha election against Congress candidate Pankaj Sanghvi. Earlier, BJP was in a fix in deciding name of Indore Lok Sabha candidate as sitting MP Sumitra Mahajan was the front runner for ticket.
After Sumitra Mahajan announced that she will not contest Lok Sabha election and the party was free to take decision. After this, names of BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, Shankar Lalwani started doing rounds. Kailash Vijayvargiya had even said that if the party wants then he is ready to contest election.
After a few days, he showed no interest in connection with Indore Lok Sabha ticket and at that time, it was evident that Kailash Vijayvargiya will not be the candidate of BJP for Indore. Apart from Kailash Vijayvargiya, names of Govind Malloo and Uma Shashi Sharma were also on cards. Indore is stronghold of BJP and Sumitra Mahajan has represented Indore seat for record eight times. Sumitra Mahajan said that she will work for the party whoever is the candidate and even demanded that party should declare candidate as early as possible. Sources said that Sumitra Mahajan is continuously holding meetings in constituency for Lok Sabha elections.
